Customize It

Marisa and Jared: n. a super cool couple whose amazing DIY projects fill their house with character.

Not surprisingly, Jared and Marissa are some of our favorite new clients. They used fabric from our newest collection (Pattern: Teton, available in 6 colors*) to make custom cushions for their already gorgeous living room chairs.

Jared and Marissa found a pair of vintage chairs and made them fun and youthful by painting them in this bright, sea-green color.  The final step - mixing the bright paint color with Burrow & Hive's 'Admiral Blue' gives the chairs a sophisticated edge for their Toronto home.

One of their other projects: they had some old Hudson's Bay blankets sewn into pillows - such an amazing idea!

What makes their approach to interior design so refreshing is that they have stories to tell about each piece - where it came from, what they did to make it their own and what they learned along the way.

*Products in our Teton collection will be available beginning in March.

Evolution of a Pattern

At Burrow & Hive all of our patterns begin as hand drawings, mostly inspired by things we see in our travels - often plants and animals - and in one case - a tooth.  A shark's tooth to be specific.

As sister's who have similar taste in just about everything, several years ago we decided to get matching sister's necklaces.  The necklace is a gold shark's tooth (which brings good luck) with a turquoise charm (which we decided means sisterhood) from the amazing jewelry line Finn.

When developing patterns last fall, we were inspired by the shape of the tooth and began to draw and paint!

After some scanning and manipulation we had a block carved and started printing scarves.  We named the pattern Dody after our mother, who now has her own shark's tooth necklace.  Most appropriately, the scarf comes in Turquoise (sisterhood) and the newest addition to our line - Metallic Gold!

B&H + ACS

For a cause that is near and dear to our hearts, Burrow & Hive is proud to support the American Cancer Society.  This April, our donation helped raise over $2.7 million at the 2012 American Cancer Society Discovery Ball in Chicago!  We couldn't be more excited and proud to have been a part of it!

Happy Trails!

Burrow & Hive is always inspired by nature and the outdoors.  So, when we received an invitation from the Trust for Public Land to celebrate a Chicago park project called 'The Bloomingdale Trail,' we jumped at the opportunity to attend.  And after last night's exciting event, we can't wait to be more involved.

Below is a photo of the proposed site through the heart of Chicago.  It's so long my camera couldn't capture it all!  The park will stretch through Wicker Park, Bucktown, Humboldt Park, and Logan Square and runs along a former elevated rail line - think The Highline, Chicago style!

We are excited to follow The Blomingdale Trail through its construction phases and see this plan come to fruition.

Here are some links so you can further explore this impressive project!
